Microsoft Engage 2023: The Research Fellows (RF) Program at Microsoft Research India (MSRI) exposes bright, young minds in India to world-class research and the state-of-the-art in technology. The program prepares students for careers in research, engineering, as well as entrepreneurship. MSR India has some of the best researchers pushing the frontiers of computer science and technology. Research Fellows have contributed to all aspects of the research lifecycle, spanning ideation, implementation, evaluation, and deployment.

About Microsoft Engage Program 2023:

Intern Engage offers multiple engagement and evaluation touchpoints where participants will interact with Microsoft mentors, leaders, interns throughout the course of the program.

Based on consistency and performance during the program, participants will be offered the opportunity to interview and intern with Microsoft India.

Eligibility for Microsoft Engage 2022:

• Students graduating in 2024 enrolled in a full-time engineering program Bachelors, Masters, Integrated Dual Degree & related degrees
• 6 CGPA and above

Microsoft Engage Challenges:

Choose any one challenge from the three (3) options given below. You could choose to develop a browser-based web application or a native mobile application.

You are free to use any technology, framework, programming language(s), database(s), and cloud platform of your choice.

Face Recognition:

Develop a browser-based application or a native mobile application to demonstrate application of Face Recognition technology. You could choose to demonstrate application of Face Recognition in any area of application of your choice

Data Analysis:

Develop an application to demonstrate how the Automotive Industry could harness data to take informed decisions. You could choose to use the data set provided, or use any open-source data set available you might have access to, or create your own.

Algorithms:

Demonstrate through your app the different kinds of algorithms that a web-streaming app (like Netflix) or an audio-streaming app (like Spotify) may use for their Recommendation Engine.

Selection Process: 

It was a 3 step process to be a part of the engage program consisting of resume shortlisting, online test 1, and online test 2.

• Resume Shortlisting – In this round, you have to fill up a form(this year you had to apply in the MS career portal), If you fulfill the criteria, you will receive a link for Online test 1. I was able to clear this round. I would suggest, including 2-3 projects in your resume and coding profiles of any platform in a proper and structured way, as, there is a big competition in this round. 
• Online Test 1 – Online Test 1 consisted of 10 MCQ questions to be solved in 30 minutes. There are multiple question sets and scores are normalized accordingly. The topics for the questions were Basic DSA – Stack, Queue, Trees(mainly traversal algorithms), Sorting, Binary Search, and Priority Queues. I was able to clear this round. My recommendation for this test is, don’t omit any questions answer all questions positively.
• Online Test 2 – In this round, I was given 3 puzzle-type questions based on time complexity analysis. Had to provide a typed explanation for all 3 questions. I tried my level best but wasn’t able to clear this round. The topic for the questions is- Time Complexity.
